Artificial Intelligence (AI) is booming and is an excellent tool, and will only be used when appropriate and with your permission.
Recently I have gone to my family doctor and noticed that they were using Artificial Intelligence to summarize the appointment and list for the doctor any tasks that were spoken. Helping them catch anything they may have not written down themselves. It was in this moment I began to see the benefial use of AI as tool in the helping profession.
I use AI to improve the quality of therapy being provided. As therapists, we are human, we do have our weaknesses and can make mistakes. By using AI it is an opportunity to reduce mistakes. For example, a therapist may perceive a particular theme to the session, and the AI may validate theme, but also add information of other themes that may have been missed. Therefore together, providing a higher level of therapy.
The device that is used is called PLAUD. It's a visible device that you can get familiar with. It will log the session and then provide a summary and any tasks that need to be done. I then use this information to help send the post session email (as noted on our counselling page, I like taking the physiotherapy approach to counselling).
